Album Cover Art: Pink Floyd [graphic design]

Continuing in the tradition of album covers as Useable Art, I give you one of the legends of rock, one of the early progenitors of the cover-as-art movement, and one of my personal favorites: Pink FLoyd.

There are so many more than one could even list here but among their most recognizable classics are, from left to right, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Atom Heart Mother, and A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The simplicity of The Wall‘s scrawl on white brick. Simple and unforgettable. Not sure where they’re going with Atom Heart Mother, but its one of my favorites. And cows are cute. From a distance.

Of course, if the music was shit, we’d never have seen the art. So it’s not as if the cover makes the album… But when music and print art do find that happy marriage, its worth waiting for. And remember: no Photoshop or other trickery here, folks. Just great photographers and design shops where they did it all by hand.
